What is Building Information Modeling (BIM)?


Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.

BIM has five features: Visualization,Compatibility,Simulation,Optimization and Graphability.


1. Visualization:

BIM converts the previous 2D line drawings into 3D three-dimensional physical display, integrates different professional designs into the same visual model, replaces multiple graphic design drawings, and does not need to rely on imagination to establish a spatial concept.




2. Compatibility:

The detailed collision problem was not considered in the design, if it is discovered during the construction stage, it is too late. BIM can solve the construction collision problem in the design in advance through model integration and review, and provide integrated data for review by all construction parties. If you only need to modify the relevant parameters to modify the drawing, BIM will automatically link and update the drawing to reduce the version gap caused by the correction.




3. Simulation:

BIM can not only simulate the main body of the building, but also perform various simulations during the design stage, such as: energy consumption simulation, emergency evacuation simulation, sunlight simulation, heat conduction simulation, etc. Through 4D project progress simulation, 5D project cost simulation before construction, manage the progress and project cost, so that related units can make a complete analysis and evaluation of the entire project before the construction of the building.




4. Optimization:

Use BIM technology to optimize the design, simplify the design process of complex projects, improve design efficiency, and analyze the project's operating costs and investment benefits to optimize the design project. For special design projects with high construction difficulty and many construction process problems, it can effectively shorten the construction period and reduce the cost.




5. Graphability:

After visually displaying, coordinating, simulating, and optimizing the building, assist the proprietor to produce drawings:

  • SEM image (open hole and embedded casing image)
  • Collision review and suggested improvement report



6. Asset management database:
